Artist Statement:
Natural history museums came into existence in the nineteenth century as a place of scientific study. While they continue to carry out this work, they have also changed focus, becoming one of the few spaces in which members of the public come into close contact with animal bodies and their natural habitats—a space mixing visuality, affect, epistemological control and ontological definition. These photos taken at the American Museum for Natural History in New York City probe the manner in which visual display structures our sentiments for and engagement with animal bodies and the places in which they live.
