Artist Statement:
Encounters with wild animals in a national park: through its stylized renderings of the animals present in Banff National Park, a tourist t-shirt commemorates the occasion or acts as a consolation prize for a missed opportunity. Even in the age of wifi and smart phones, an animal on the roadside brings traffic to a halt, causes adults to insist that their children glance up and out the car window. “Look! Look!” A space full of complexity and contradiction, smoothed over by summer ice creams and sulphur springs, and our capacity to make animals mean anything and everything we might want or need them to.
